The night shift

By day, Bigbank.
By night, Bugbank.

I’m Aare. I’ve been building for the web since 2009, first as a webmaster, then at Telia, RMIT and Coop Pank, and now as a software engineer at Bigbank.

Bugbank is one of my hobbies, and a serious one. Building fully working apps with AI has changed faster than anything I’ve seen in all my years on the web, and every week brings something new to learn. The bugs that turn up now and then teach me fastest of all. What I learn here ends up in my day job the next morning.

Not every night is a coding night, though. There are two wonderful sons, an apple orchard, a battle bot in the making, the Estonian Defence League, brewing, photography, and a game of Age of Empires IV when I can. Some weeks there’s no time for code at all, and the ideas simply wait their turn.

  • Built to banking standardsMore than fifteen years on the web, the last five in banking. Tests, monitoring and maintenance are not extras, even on a hobby project, and I review every line AI writes. The whole matters, but the details matter most.
  • A craft that never stands stillHow apps get built with AI changes almost weekly. Every new project is a chance to learn something, try it for real, and bring it back to work.
  • New problems, better answersSome apps come from my own life. Others tackle problems that had no good answer before, or do what existing tools do, properly.
