Because I needed it.
The best brief is your own frustration.
- Born from a real, everyday need
- Tested on myself before anyone else
- Used every week, not just shipped
For example: Orchard
By day I build banking software. On free evenings, for the love of it, I build my own apps: for brewers, for hiring teams, for anyone running a quiz, and for my own apple orchard. Every one of them is live, and none of them is a demo.
Bugs rarely make it into my apps. Most of them end up here instead.

AI opened doors that were shut a year ago.
For example: Lomelian
Plenty of apps exist. Plenty are pricey, dated, or both.
Just the latest few I’ve made public. Four products, one engineer, all in real use, and every one of them taught me something.
Live quizzes and polls for classrooms, meetings and events, with real-time leaderboards. Free to use.
Why it existsThe popular live-quiz tools lock the good parts behind a subscription. goHoot does the same job, live leaderboards included, and gives it away.
The free brewing app for homebrewers and small breweries. It takes a recipe from grain bill to glass.
Why it existsBrewing software is expensive, dated, or both, and most brewers still glue it together with spreadsheets. BrewDozer covers the whole brew in one modern app, for free.
Technical hiring without the take-home test. See how a candidate works, not just what they hand in.
Why it existsThe take-home test was built for a world that is gone. When any candidate can paste a task into AI, the hand-in tells you nothing. Lomelian shows how someone actually works.
A planting plan for an apple orchard. Rows, varieties, materials and a field-work journal in one place.
Why it existsMy own. An orchard is a long plan made of small decisions, and paper wasn’t keeping up. Now the plan, the materials and every day in the field live in one place.

I’m Aare. I’ve been building for the web since 2009, first as a webmaster, then at Telia, RMIT and Coop Pank, and now as a software engineer at Bigbank.
Bugbank is one of my hobbies, and a serious one. Building fully working apps with AI has changed faster than anything I’ve seen in all my years on the web, and every week brings something new to learn. The bugs that turn up now and then teach me fastest of all. What I learn here ends up in my day job the next morning.
Not every night is a coding night, though. There are two wonderful sons, an apple orchard, a battle bot in the making, the Estonian Defence League, brewing, photography, and a game of Age of Empires IV when I can. Some weeks there’s no time for code at all, and the ideas simply wait their turn.
Articles, videos and websites I came across lately, usually well past midnight.
...catchy beats to start a weekend :)
Tell me what’s broken, missing, or ten times harder than it should be. The best apps usually start as a complaint. Coffee in Tallinn, or a call from anywhere.
